PPLS | The Good Greek Girl

Author talk with Maria Katsonis

Thursday 17 September, 6.30 – 7.30pm
[Edited extract from public address]

Maria Katsonis is the good Greek girl who grew up above her parents’ Melbourne milk bar and shared a bedroom with her yiayia – until university, where she discovered her rebellious side.
Maria embraced her independence and aimed high, attending Harvard University and graduating with a Masters of Public Administration – however, five years later she found herself alone on a bed in a psych ward fighting for her life.

Experiencing a complete mental breakdown that shattered her professional and personal identity, Maria is now a senior executive in the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet, an ambassador for beyondblue and advocate with the Australia Council for Mental Health. While she now lives with a chronic mental illness, Maria Katsonis leads an active and purposeful life.
" ... generous, intelligent and loving. The world needs the rare kindness Katsonis is able to show to both herself and others." The Age

18th of July fundraiser for Nepal was booked out quickly and was a great success. As so many people missed out organisers quickly set about offering another evening for Saturday 15th August 2015.

Around 80 people came from all walks of life joined together each night to have a wonderful evening of fun and laughter. In the spirit of generosity enough money was raised to build temporary schools in Nepal's most needy areas plus provide safe drinking water to the children, teachers and parents. This was a great effort. The total of the two events was just under $15,000 to Nepal. Thank you everyone for the contributions.

The venue, food, prizes, all of Organisers' time, skills and donations were offered free of charge with 100% proceeds going to Nepal.
