GiveOUT | UPDATING | Taking Pride by Changing Lives | Thursday 19 October 2023

[Edited extract from public address]

Momentum is building and the excitement is palpable here at GiveOUT. Our favourite day of the year is just two weeks away but we’ve already got so many reasons to celebrate!

Here we hear from some of our trailblazing ambassadors, proud participants, abundant funders and powerful corporate allies. There’s a way for everyone to get involved this GiveOUT Day. So be inspired, let love guide your way and get amongst this incredible community of giving!

But first a reminder,

Get your workplace werrking!

Your employer / workplace can help make GiveOUT Day 2023 our biggest year yet! Getting involved in GiveOUT Day is a great way to engage employees, raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ issues and make a tangible difference at scale.

This could look like:
  • Contributing directly to fundraising efforts, such as by matching employee donations
  • Helping to spread the word amongst employees and broader networks (you can use the assets HERE or reach out to our team!)
  • Providing in-kind support to go towards challenge prizes to help encourage engagement and donations
  • Find more information or email our CEO em@giveout.org.au.

An example of powerful corporate allyship are our friends over at Tanck: a sector-leading strategic-comms firm. As well as supporting GiveOUT with core funding, Tanck also awards each of its own employees $200 to be donated to any GiveOUT Day project of the employee’s choosing.
"Tanck is very excited to be taking part in GiveOUT day again in 2024. We are proud to be a long-term supporter of the operations of GiveOUT. In addition to supporting GiveOUT, we also give $200 'virtual' dollars, where our team chooses projects of choice and Tanck makes the donation on their behalf for GiveOUT Day" – Angus & Neil, Co-Founders Tanck

Sign-Up as a Champ to win an extra cash donation!

We're giving the first three Champions who raise $500 on their profile a $500 boost for their chosen organisation! And Champions who sign up before 5 October go in the draw to win an additional $500 donation.

Participant Spotlight

BlaQ is a Redfern-based NSW State Peak Organisation supporting and representing Community living within the intersection of a Cultural Life and LGBTQ+SB identity. This GiveOUT Day, BlaQ are fundraising to establish a DROP IN - Pride in Culture Hub for the LGBTQ+SB Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community.
"This year, more so than ever, the LGBTQ+SB Aboriginal community are in need of healing and having space where they are connected and where belonging is felt. The Pride in Culture Hub will provide the needed mental and emotional support to a community in need".  – Shane Sturgiss, CEO BlaQ

GiveOUT proudly supports Australia saying YES in the upcoming Referendum for a constitutionally enshrined First Nations Voice.

LGBTQIA+ people understand the significance of a public vote about their lives, and the importance of allies in advocating for change. We know that there is no substitute for the wisdom of lived experience when it comes to designing policies and programs.

Loud and Proud

"Our community is so full of brilliant changemakers, activists and revolutionaries who have the most audacious imaginings for the possibilities of this world. We deserve a future that holds and honours the sacredness and magic that we each have to offer and in order to reach these potentials, we need resources and support.

So many of our community’s initiatives are voluntary, under-funded and overworking leading to burn-out, disillusionment and the dissipation of such crucial visions that I know can be life-saving. I want to put whatever I can behind getting these projects to be more sustainable and for our community to feel an abundance of resources and endless possibility." – Nevo Zisin, GiveOUT Day Ambassador

International Lesbian Day

Here at GiveOUT we love an annual day of significance for LGBTQIA+ folk. This week we are celebrating the L-leaders of our rainbow acronym! October 8 is International Lesbian Day, a day for lesbians and allies to come together to celebrate lesbian history, diversity and culture. Special shout out to Em Scott, GiveOUT’s legendary CEO and a proud, lesbian woman!

Project Sign-Ups Close This Week!

Do you know of an LGBTQIA+ project doing amazing work for our communities? Encourage them to Sign-Up and receive funds this GiveOUT Day!

We couldn't do it without you

We are incredibly excited to announce our third match-funding partner for GiveOUT Day 2023! Thanks to a generous contribution by the Slingsby Foundation, an additional $20,000 donated through the GiveOUT Day platform will be matched dollar-for-dollar by GiveOUT (up to $1,500 per organisation or until the funding pool is exhausted).
“Slingsby Foundation was established with a vision for a just and caring society that embraces difference. There is real momentum building in LGBTIQ+ philanthropy and the time is right to step forward to make more funds available to support the LGBTIQ+ community that I am proud to be part of. I hope that others join the growing cohort of funders committed to accelerating the impact of this national day of giving for LGBTIQ+ projects, community groups, and not-for-profit organisations." – David Hardie, Founder and Director, Slingsby Foundation

Love,
