CoPP | S2b | CELEBRATING | Refugee Week | 16-22 June 2024

[Edited extract from public address]

Refugee Week will be held from the 16-22 June this year, and while we work everyday to support our refugee community, we wanted to highlight a couple of special events happening at Space2b through June.

We hope that you will visit us in support of these events and of course all the refugees we have been blessed to be able to assist on their journey to find freedom.

CELEBRATING | Refugee Week at Park Towers Community Hub | Saturday 22 June 2024 | 12.30-3pm

Where: Park Towers Community Hub. 332 Park Street South Melbourne
Space2b has partnered up with City of Port Phillip to bring you an afternoon of fun. This year, we're celebrating the culturally diverse families living in Park Towers with a community-led event filled with food, art, music, dance, sport, stories, kids activities and more. We hope you and your family can join us.

A halal and kosher barbeque will be available and vegetarian options will be provided by International Society for Krishna Consciousness.

LAUNCHING | Karen Creatives Product

We will be launching the “Next Door Artisans” products here at Space2b mid-month, just in time for Refugee Week in June. This range is the result of our work with the Karen Group, refugees from Myanmar. We’ve been honoured to work with this wonderful group, helping them to develop their creative identities and use their skills to produce beautiful products. We’ve also been fortunate enough to meet a dedicated and skilled group of mentors as well as the Wyndham Park Community Centre, also committed to supporting and welcoming refugees.

Heesco Mural 'Peace & Goodwill'

Heesco is currently Australia’s most prolific silo artist to date, with 5 silos and a water tower to his name. At Space2b’s 10th anniversary celebration last year,  Heesco®  offered a super prize in our silent auction - An opportunity to join him to create a street art mural. On the weekend, 15-year old Atem Ring and artist, Karen Hopkins joined Heesco to produce a wall mural in the art laneway behind Space2b. The group decided to paint birds and the result is spectacular, naming it 'Peace & Goodwill'. Heesco will be joining other Space2b street artists for a special exhibition at Space2b in July so watch this space.

Space2b Sensational Floor Mural

We're delighted that Anis, a famous Chilean mural and graffiti artist chose Space2b to create a 5m x 6m floor mural at the front of Space2b with a grant from the Chilean Government and the help of a few Space2b artists - Fabuloso!
