COVIDSafe Settings in metropolitan Melbourne from 11:59pm on Thursday 10 June 2021
Metropolitan Melbourne consists of the following Local Government Areas (LGAs):
Banyule, Bayside, Boroondara, Brimbank, Cardinia, Casey, Darebin, Frankston, Glen Eira, Greater Dandenong, Hobsons Bay, Hume, Kingston, Knox, Manningham, Maribyrnong, Maroondah, Melbourne, Melton, Monash, Moonee Valley, Moreland, Mornington Peninsula, Nillumbik, Port Phillip, Stonnington, Whitehorse, Whittlesea, Wyndham (except Little River), Yarra, Yarra Ranges.If outside these areas, refer to the Regional Victoria information.
If you live in Metropolitan Melbourne:
- There are no restrictions on the reasons to leave your home but staying COVIDSafe remains important.
- You cannot have visitors to the home.
- You cannot travel more than 25km from your home except for work, care, study or to travel your nearest vaccination centre. Travel into regional Victoria is not permitted, except for a number of limited reasons – work, education, care and caregiving, and to get vaccinated (if this is your nearest vaccination location).
- Face masks are mandatory indoors and outdoors.
- Restrictions follow you, for example if attending a funeral in regional Victoria that funeral must apply metropolitan Melbourne rules.
- If you have any symptoms, no matter how mild you must get tested for COVID-19.
Stay within 25 km of your home
Whilst there is no limit on the reasons to leave your home, you must stay within 25km of your home unless for work, education, care, essential goods or services or to travel to your nearest vaccination centre.You can exercise outside of your home with up to 10 people as long as everyone does not travel more than 25km from their home. Metropolitan Melbourne residents must not travel into regional Victoria for exercise or for community sport unless it is your work. You are allowed to exercise within 25 km of your permitted workplace.
Accommodation is open but you may only book accommodation for yourself, your household or with your intimate partner or single bubble, and within 25km of home.
Work and education
- There is no longer an authorised worker or authorised provider list.
- If you can work or study from home, you should continue to do so. If you can’t work from home, you can go to work.
- Schools can resume face-to-face learning for all year levels.
- Universities and higher education facilities can resume face-to-face learning.
- Workplaces like offices can increase to 25% capacity or 10 people, whichever is greater.
- You can attend work in regional Victoria if you cannot work from home.
- Early childhood education and care remains open.
Face masks
- Face masks must be worn indoors and outdoors. You do not need to wear a mask in your own home, when visiting your intimate partner or single social buddy, or if another lawful exception applies.
Social gatherings
- You can see friends and family outdoors in a public place in a group of up to 10 people. A public place is an area accessible by members of the public like a park or the beach. It does not include your backyard at home.
- You can only travel up to 25km from your home to meet friends and family if you are meeting them outdoors.
- You cannot have visitors to your home, unless they are your intimate partner or single social bubble buddy.
Goods and services
- Retail is open, with a density requirement of 1 person per 4 sqm. While shopping you need to respect the limit of allowed patrons in a retail setting. This limit on patrons is in place to ensure everyone in the shop can keep 1.5 metres distance from each other.
- Beauty and personal care services are open, with a density requirement of 1 person per 4 sqm. Only services where the customer can wear a face mask throughout the service can resume.
- You can only travel up to 25km from your home to visit shops, beauty salons and to access other personal care.
- Check in upon entry using the Service Victoria app, even if your visit is less than 15 minutes.
- You may only travel into regional Victoria for necessary goods and services if it is your closest provider.
Sport
- Outdoor sport and recreational facilities such as golf courses can re-open with a density requirement of 1 person per 4 sqm and a maximum of 100 people per venue. No capacity limits apply if 100 metre distance can be maintained between groups.
- Groups are limited to 10 people including for outdoor group classes such as personal training and bootcamps. The trainer is in addition to the 10 people.
- Outdoor training for all community sport can return. Spectators are only permitted for the purposes of supervising children or dependants. Competition is not permitted.
- Indoor sport and recreational facilities, including gyms, remain closed.
- Outdoor swimming pools, spas and springs are open with a density requirement of 1 person per 4 sqm and a maximum of 100 people per venue.
- You can only travel up to 25km from your home for community sport and other exercise or recreation. You can travel up to 25km from your permitted workplace for exercise.
Religion and ceremony
- You can have a wedding at a venue with up to 10 people. This limit includes the couple and two witnesses. A celebrant, a photographer and any babies under 12 months of age, are in addition to the cap of 10 people. Weddings in private residences are not permitted unless compassionate grounds apply.
- Funerals at a venue are allowed with up to 50 people. This limit doesn’t include babies under 12 months of age, or the people required to conduct the funeral. A funeral held at a private residence is limited to members of that household, intimate partners of the household and minimum number of people required to conduct the funeral.
- Religious gatherings and ceremonies are allowed with a density requirement of 1 person per 4 sqm and a maximum 50 people per venue (excluding any babies under 12 months old), plus those required to facilitate or conduct the service.
- Check in upon entry using the Service Victoria app, even if your visit is less than 15 minutes.
- You can only travel up to 25km from your home to attend religious gatherings and ceremonies.
Hospitality
- Restaurants, cafes and pubs are open for dine-in service with a density requirement of 1 person per 4 sqm and a maximum of 100 people per venue, including 50 indoors. Only seated service is permitted when dining in.
- There is a maximum group limit of 10 people.
- The limit on customers for seated, dine-in service is in place to ensure everyone can keep 1.5 metres distance.
- Food courts can also re-open with the same limits on the number of customers.
- Check in upon entry using the Service Victoria app, even if your visit is less than 15 minutes.
- You can only travel up to 25km from your home to dine-in or get takeaway.
Entertainment
- Indoor seated entertainment venues can open with a seated capacity of 25%, and a density requirement of 1 person per 4 sqm with up to a maximum of 50 people per venue.
- Check in upon entry using the Service Victoria app, even if your visit is less than 15 minutes.
- You can only travel up to 25km from your home to go to attend indoor seated entertainment venues.
- Outdoor seated entertainment is open with a seated capacity of 50%, and a density requirement of 1 person per 4 sqm in non-seated areas, and a maximum of 100 people per venue.
Additionally
- You can leave home if there is an emergency.
- You can leave home if there is family violence or violence by another person in the home, and you are at risk. If you are stopped by police, tell them you are feeling unsafe at home and they will help you. Safe accommodation and support for family violence is available. Other ways to stay safe
- Always wash your hands before you leave, and when you return home.
- Keep at least 1.5 metres between yourself and others.
- Never, ever go out if you are unwell unless it is to get tested.
- After you get tested, you must go straight home.
- Remember that the most important thing you can do is get tested, even if you have the mildest of symptoms.
- Get vaccinated if you are eligible.
