Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre is Victoria’s statewide first response service for women, young people and children experiencing family violence.

We are committed to ensuring all women and children are able to live free from abuse – our ultimate goal is the elimination of family violence. We work towards this through a respond-recover-prevent framework.

What is Family Violence?

Family violence is any threatening, coercive, dominating or abusive behaviour that occurs between people in a family, domestic or intimate relationship, or former intimate relationship, that causes the person experiencing the behaviour to feel fear.

Types of abuse

Violence isn’t just physical. Emotional and psychological abuse can be just as damaging.

How to be an active bystander

Know how to act when you witness a situation of abuse or unacceptable behaviour.
