Information including what Victorian Transcultural Mental Health (VTMH) has been up to, introducing you to some new faces in our team and information about two new positions available with us. 

We (as many of you reading are also likely to be involved in), are being kept busy with work in relation to the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.

As always, VTMH remains committed to improving the quality of Victoria's mental health system and to creating healthy, connected communities, where no one is left behind.

VTMH is expanding! Join our team

We're on the look out for talented people to join our team. Two vacancies have been posted on the St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne website.
  • A part time position as a Carer Consultant
  • A part time position as an Evaluation, Monitoring and Research Consultant.

Introduction of new team members

Early in 2022, the VTMH team welcomed three new team members Nivanka, Steph & Abie.

Our Recently Developed Rural And Regional Approach

As a state-wide unit, VTMH is committed to work with and support the mental health and wellbeing sector to enhance cultural responsiveness, across the state of Victoria. This includes the rural and regional areas. 

Our Recovery And Assessment Workshop - Updated For Online Delivery

Over the past few months Justin Kuay and Naomi Chapman from VTMH have been updating the Recovery and Assessment workshop and are pleased to say that we are now ready to present it.

VTMH’s Lived Experience Community Of Practice 

A small but committed group of people kicked off VTMH’s Lived Experience Community of Practice (LE CoP) at the end of 2022.

Presenting Our Community Projects and Participation at the Department of Health Diverse Communities Team Round Table

The Department of Health (DoH), Diverse Communities’ Team, in response to its ongoing alliance with VTMH, invited VTMH to participate in a number of events.

New Mental Health and Wellbeing Outcomes and Performance Framework

On Friday, 13 May 2022 a workshop was held via Zoom to inform design of the new mental health and wellbeing outcomes and performance framework.

Spirituality & Diversity Discussion Project

Spiritual Health Association (SHA) in partnership with VTMH has been running The Spirituality & Diversity Discussion Project since 2019.

Partcipation at the Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Integrated Framework Sessions

The Department of Health (DoH) is developing an integrated treatment, care and support program for clients with co-occurring needs: Guidance for Victorian mental health and wellbeing and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) services.

Star Health Partnership


VTMH has been in partnership with Star Health since 2020.

Darebin and YCH Partnership Project


VTMH was invited to collaborate with Darebin Council and Your Community Health (YCH) to co-design a project with community members from East Preston and Reservoir.

Meaningful collaboration with Tandem 

Contributing to greater support for those caring and supporting family and friends living with mental health issues.

Community Engagement Project

At the end of 2021, VTMH embarked on a project to develop a suite of resources on community engagement to support the mental health workforce.

VTMH Psychiatry Registrar Group

The purpose of this monthly, one hour, online psychiatry registrar group is to promote culturally safe and responsive mental health care in clinical practice. This group provides an online space once a month for psychiatry registrars across Victoria to participate in discussions and reflections on cases involving transcultural themes.

VTMH Oration Honours The Late VTMH Manager, Daryl Oehm

VTMH was pleased to hold the Inaugural Daryl Oehm Oration, on the evening of Wednesday, 18 May 2022.
