Offered for the first time in 2023, this free, multi-stage program will begin with a series of writing workshops facilitated by experienced playwrights from Melbourne Writers Theatre.
Gasworks Script Lab (GSL) is an exciting creative development opportunity for new, emerging and established playwrights living in the City of Port Phillip.
Participants’ scripts will then be further developed in script sessions with a director and actors. The program will culminate in two Script Showcases, to be presented on stage to the public in October.
GSL is designed for participants of all skill levels – from writers/aspiring writers who have never written for the stage but are interested in exploring the craft of playwriting to experienced playwrights with production credits.
New playwrights will be guided to write a monologue or short play from scratch. Writers who have an existing script or work-in-progress they wish to further develop will be offered the dramaturgical support to do this.
All sessions will be held on-site at Gasworks Arts Park, with an online option also available.
