VMC | UPDATING | Volunteer opportunities available, have your say on disability inclusion in Victoria and more | Wednesday 28 September 2022

[Edited extract from public address]

May everyone have had a relaxing long weekend, and had the chance to spend time with family, with community, watching the AFL Grand Final, or all of the above!

Message from the Chairperson

I'd like to bring to your attention to an exciting annual event that I had the honour of attending online last year. I was totally inspired by the work this organisation does. The event is called Changing Narratives: GirlForce Interactive Expo, and it is a great example of what is possible when communities build knowledge and confidence in young girls and women. The event is on 15 October and more information is in the newsletter below.

In a couple of weeks time on 13 October I'll also be attending the 10th Annual Walter Lippmann Memorial Oration at the Wheeler Centre in Melbourne. It is held annually to commemorate the outstanding work of Walter Lippmann, one of the Ethnic Community Council of Victoria's founders. I encourage all who are available to attend, and will see you there!

On a solemn note, Victorians will have the chance to pay tribute to revered community leader and Aboriginal Elder, Uncle Jack Charles' State Funeral on Tuesday 18 October 2022. Uncle Jack Charles was a proud Boon Wurrung, Dja Dja Wurrung, Woiwurrung and Taungurung man who touched the lives of many people in Australia and the world. Details about how to attend or join the live stream of the event will be shared in the coming weeks.

Until we next meet, take care and stay well.
Viv Nguyen AM, Chairperson
