ILF | RAISING | Awareness, Support and Funds for Giving Remote Communities Access to Books

[Edited extract from public address]

Yamandhu marang!

Research shows that children who are taught in their First Language are better able to learn and understand the world around them.

Over 50% of the books we gift to Community are by First Nations authors and illustrators.

This is important as it allows kids to see themselves and their culture reflected in the stories, helping to build a sense of connection, belonging and pride.

Please donate this EOFY and give kids and their families in remote Communities access to books in First Languages.

Every $10 puts one culturally relevant book into the hands of a child in a remote Community.
"With the kids, learning language is their cultural right. It is their heritage to be exposed to their language and to know their language. If it is not spoken regularly, it then becomes lost. So to keep that language alive, and practised in children's books is one of the best ways to get it out there" - Relena, Coordinator, PaL program.
