Challenging Ageism Free online short course
The free online Challenging Ageism short course is designed to give you the knowledge and confidence you need to recognise and challenge ageism wherever you see it.
What is ageism?
Ageism is all around us. In fact, because ageing is a universal experience, it is an unfortunate reality that most of us will experience ageism at some point in our lifetimes. You may be on the receiving end of it, see it happening to others or perpetuate ageism yourself, even unintentionally.
The Challenging Ageism Short Course will shine a light on what it's like to experience ageism and the common assumptions and behaviours that are contributing to ageist attitudes.
In this one-hour course, you will explore what ageism is, where it comes from and the serious consequences it has for older people and the societies they live in. You will learn to recognise ageism, including within yourself, and explore a range of proactive strategies you can put in place to challenge it.

Heritage Talk: Enchanted Beneath the Bluff | Tuesday 25 July 2023 | 6.30-7.30pm
Within a place of love, sorrow and salvation, where Elwood’s Swamp met St Kilda’s Red Bluff, two daring Theosophists – Agnes Simmons and Geraldine Minet – sought to bring prosperity to Colonial Victoria of the 1890’s in the midst of the Depression, challenging providence and geology.
Their engine ‘Helena’ was fired up to bore deeper for their black diamonds than any other coal exploration in the world!
Join us for a presentation by local historians Isaac Hermann and Heather Arnold on this little known aspect of Elwood’s history.
The talk will be specially introduced by architect and former Councillor David Brand.
- Where: St Kilda Library, 150 Carlisle Street, St Kilda
- Cost: Free
- Bookings: essential, online through Trybooking
Copies of the book will be available at the event.
