SEEKING | Non Executive Directors – Yarra Energy Foundation

The Yarra Energy Foundation is seeking expressions of interest for two non-executive directors to join its established and experienced Board.
  • Catalyse equitable, renewable, resilient energy ecosystems
  • Engage local communities to be part of the solution
  • Unlock innovation at scale, addressing complex climate challenges

The Role
YEF is growing rapidly with new demand for its specialist services in addressing the climate challenge – combining technical and commercial skills in concert with industry and community partnerships. This presents the organisation with opportunities and challenges in revenue diversification, as YEF positions itself strategically within the energy and environment ecosystem.

To support its ongoing growth, YEF’s established board currently has two vacancies for Non-Executive Directors to join in a voluntary capacity.

To fulfil these roles, YEF is seeking two individuals with energy sector experience, governance capabilities and strong networks.

CELEBRATING | Our Battery Turning One!

This month (05/06/2023) we celebrated our beautiful Fitzroy North battery's first birthday!

It was fantastic to gather with a large group of our supporters, partners, and staff.

We started with morning tea and treats at the YEF office, where Chris Wallin gave an excellent summary of what the battery has been doing over the past year and our learnings throughout the process. This was just a sneak peak of what is to come in the first annual performance report.

We then enjoyed a leisurely stroll in the sunshine to the battery to wish is a happy birthday in person. None of us can quite believe it has already been operating for one whole year...

Again, we'd like to thank all our partners and stakeholders involved in this project - without all of you this would not have been possible!

COLLABORATING | Noosa Shire Council Set Community Battery Plan

We're working with Noosa Shire Council and Zero Emissions Noosa to implement one of Queensland's first community batteries.

Funded by a $500,000 grant from the Federal Government, the battery will soak up excess solar energy and redistribute it to the local community when the sun is no longer shining.

This month, Noosa Shire Council endorsed a plan to support the execution of this project.
“The work done by ZEN Inc., Council and Yarra Energy Foundation over the last two years is helping the Noosa community to benefit from cleaner energy locally" – Anne Kennedy, Chair of Zero Emissions Noosa

WONDERING | What role with neighbourhood batteries play in the electrification of everything?

"The short answer is, the more distributed solar and demand for electricity – especially in the evenings – the greater the need for storage on the distribution networks. However, the role of neighbourhood batteries may not be as simple as you might expect."
