VMC | UPDATING | Community Restricted postcodes — In-language materials |

[Edited extract from public address]

With the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases continuing to rise, many postcodes across Melbourne are now in lockdown. And, as of 11.59pm 4 July 2020, postcodes 3031 and 3051 are also in lockdown.

In addition, housing estates in Flemington and North Melbourne will be closed and contained and residents will be required to stay in their homes

These public housing estates are:
  • 12 Holland Court, Flemington, 3031
  • 120 Racecourse Road, Flemington, 3031
  • 126 Racecourse Road Flemington, 3031
  • 130 Racecourse Road, Flemington, 3031
  • 12 Sutton Street, North Melbourne, 3051
  • 33 Alfred Street, North Melbourne, 3051
  • 76 Canning Street, North Melbourne, 3051
  • 159 Melrose Street, North Melbourne, 3051
  • 9 Pampas Street, North Melbourne, 3051
There will be people onsite who will help residents with medical care, food delivery and care packages. Doctors, nurses and medical staff will be testing everyone in the buildings for coronavirus.

The Victorian Multicultural Commission is working with the Victorian Government to ensure there are community and faith leaders on the ground to also lend their support. I echo the opinion of Victorian Council of Social Services CEO, Emma King, who said that we must ensure the lockdowns are done right, done proportionately and done with sensitivity.

I understand this is unprecedented and that many people will feel concerned or afraid, but to stop the spread of the virus, the Victorian Government must take this swift action.

Over the coming days, I ask you to reach out to members in your community to give them support and share in-language information outlining the latest restrictions, including posters, social media banners and translated audio messages.

Please share these materials by email, social media or through messaging apps you use like WhatsApp, WeChat, Messenger and others.

Supporting communities in the affected areas will require a sustained effort over the coming days and possibly weeks. If you would like to lend support, please let us know via contact@vmc.vic.gov.au.

Thank you for your commitment and ongoing support. During this crisis, we must continue to work together. We will share more information as soon as we can.

Please take care and look after each other,
Vivienne Nguyen, Chairperson
