July has been an exciting month at YEF.

Officially launching our Sustainable Apartments Program in partnership with City of Port Phillip (CoPP). This new initiative is already well underway, and we're looking forward to working closely with apartment communities to support their electrification journey.

Alongside this milestone, it's been another busy month across the organisation with community events. Here's a look at what we've been up to:
  • Brimbank community battery launch
  • Engaging communities on electrification through Sport & Spark
  • Clifton Hill community battery & EV charger visit

LAUNCHING | City of Port Phillip Sustainable Apartments Program

YEF is pleased to be supporting the City of Port Phillip to deliver their Sustainable Apartments Program.

Electrifying apartment buildings presents unique challenges, from navigating owners corporation decision-making to accommodating different building designs and shared infrastructure. Through this pilot, YEF will work with apartment communities to help identify practical pathways towards electrification and EV readiness, while gaining valuable insights into the barriers and opportunities facing apartment residents.

The Sustainable Apartments Program will support 10 apartment complexes by providing:
  • Energy and EV charging assessments
  • Tailored electrification roadmaps
  • Ongoing support to help apartment communities navigate the planning and decision-making process
The program will provide valuable learnings to inform future apartment electrification initiatives and help build the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to support more apartment communities as they transition to all-electric living.=

LAUNCHING | Brimbank community battery

Brimbank City Council launched its first community battery in Sunshine West on 16 July 2026. The launch was attended by several Brimbank Councillors, along with Kate Thwaites MP, Special Envoy for Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience, and Dr Daniel Mulino MP, Member for Fraser.

The 500kWh battery was funded through a $500,000 grant from the Australian Government’s Community Battery for Household Solar Program and delivered by Brimbank City Council with the support of project partners Powercor, Energus, Snowy Energy, and Yarra Energy Foundation.

The battery will support the transition to renewable energy by absorbing excess solar during the day and releasing it back to the grid during evening peak periods, when demand is highest. It will also enable more local solar generation, strengthen grid resilience, reduce emissions, and put downward pressure on wholesale electricity prices.

REPORTING | Sport & Spark events | July 

Sport & Spark has continued to build momentum, with our fifth event taking place this July in partnership with the Melbourne City FC Community Club. A huge congratulations to the club and everyone involved in delivering such a fantastic event. It was wonderful to see the local community come together to connect, take part in the day's activities and learn more about the benefits of improving household energy efficiency.

We're excited to keep the momentum going, with our next events taking place in August with Yarraville Seddon Eagles, Point Cook Football Club and Northern BMX. We look forward to these great community events and will be sharing more highlights from the program in the coming months.

YEF is working in partnership with community sports clubs across Hobsons Bay, Hume, Maribyrnong, Whittlesea and Wyndham to engage households on home electrification through community sports events and activities. 

YEF has been awarded funding from the Victorian Government to deliver this initiative has a part of the Cheaper Home Electric Energy Program.

VISITING | Clifton Hill community battery & EV charger site

YEF and the team from the Victorian Government's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) recently celebrated the successful launch and running of the Clifton Hill Neighbourhood Battery & Accessible EV Charging Bays with a site visit.

Outside of official proceedings, it was great to connect with the team from DEECA, who supported YEF during the development and construction of this innovative project. A huge thank you to the team for their collaboration throughout the project. We're excited to see the positive impact the project will have on the community for years to come.

The project is trialling how battery storage and EVs can operate together to reduce demand on the electricity grid and encourage charging when solar generation is highest, often when emissions and energy prices are lowest.  

The neighbourhood battery was funded by a $750,000 Victorian Government grant through the Neighbourhood Battery Initiative (NBI).

Cheap EV charging during solar hours in Clifton Hill & a new statewide Home Energy Upgrades program for NSW

We have officially launched our new project Sport & Spark with our first event on Saturday 30 May 2026. The project will be engaging community members on electrification through sports. We are excited for three more events this month. You can read more about the project below.

USING | Cheaper EV charging during solar hours!

Our new EV charger at the Collingwood Leisure Centre, 28 Turnbull St, Clifton Hill, is up and running. The 60 kW community EV charger features two wheelchair-accessible bays and works alongside our community battery to support the grid and increase the use of renewable energy.

We're already seeing drivers take advantage of the lower cost solar pricing window, choosing to charge when solar generation is highest and helping make better use of renewable energy.

NSW | GOV | LAUNCHING | Home Energy Saver

The New South Wales Government has launched the Home Energy Saver Program to help households invest in energy-efficient home upgrades.

Eligible households in NSW can apply for interest-free loans of up to $15,000 per property to fund approved upgrades. Eligible low-income households can apply for a discount of up to $4,000, funded by the NSW Government. 

Home Energy Saver loans and discounts can be used for:
  • Rooftop solar and batteries
  • Switchboard upgrades
  • Heat pump and solar water heaters
  • Reverse cycle air conditioners
  • Induction cooktops
  • EV level 2 chargers
  • DC ceiling fans
  • Ceiling insulation
  • Draught-proofing
  • Double glazing
  • NatHERS assessments
YEF welcomes this announcement and the program's whole home approach to energy efficiency. Alongside solar and electrification, it's great to see support for thermal upgrades such as insulation and draught-proofing. By reducing upfront costs, the program helps tackle one of the biggest barriers preventing households from investing in energy-saving improvements.

REPORTING | Sport & Spark Events - May & June 

Our Sport & Spark project is officially underway! Our first event on Saturday 30 May 2026 was a huge success. Congratulations to Truganina Lions for running the event. 

We are extremely excited to be putting on another three events this month with our partner sport clubs: Williamstown Seagulls FIDA Football Club Inc, Footscray Rangers Football Club and Altona Hockey Club.

YEF is working in partnership with community sports clubs across Hobsons Bay, Hume, Maribyrnong, Whittlesea and Wyndham to engage households on home electrification through community sports events and activities.

WELCOMING |  Three new Non-Executive Directors to YEF Board

YEF has welcomed three new Non-Executive Directors to its Board: Ferrah Dagli, Kirrily Noonan, and Luke Giuliani. Also appointed was Justin Lichtblau as an Advisor to YEF’s Brand & Partnerships Committee.

Ferrah, Kirrily and Luke are highly respected leaders bringing a wealth of experience, insight, and passion for creating positive impact. The new Directors will strengthen the organisation’s capability and strategic position as it continues empowering communities through the energy transition.

UPCOMING | Changes to Solar Victoria rebates

The Solar Victoria is changing the eligibility criteria for the solar panel PV rebate, solar rebates for rental properties and hot water rebate. 

Key points:
  • The income threshold is lowering from $210,000 to $150,000 combined income per household 
  • This comes into effect from July 1st 2026
  • If your income is between the $150,000 and $210,00 you have until 5pm June 30 to submit a full application to secure the rebate
  • Learn more about upcoming changes

OFFERING | Victorian Government Energy Assistance Program

The Energy Assistance Program offers free, confidential support from friendly advisers. It is delivered by the Victorian Government in partnership with Anglicare Victoria.

This over-the-phone service is designed to provide assistance to Victorian households that are having trouble paying their energy bills. This includes assistance to navigate the energy market, access critical energy affordability supports, manage cost of living pressures by saving money on energy bills, and better understand your consumer rights and protections.

  • 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday

Program services:
  • apply for eligible concessions and grants
  • access your retailer’s hardship programs
  • find, compare and switch energy offers
  • understand energy bills and address billing errors
  • provide energy saving and efficiency advice
  • provide referrals to other services like financial counselling.
This service is available to all Commonwealth Government Concession card holders and anyone who is struggling or expecting to struggle to pay an energy bill.

We kicked off May with the long-awaited launch of our neighbourhood battery and EV charger in Clifton Hill, an incredibly proud moment for our team.

We're also coming towards the end of the Melbourne Community Electrification Roadshow, with just a few events left to go. Supported by Sustainability Victoria, the roadshow has brought together some wonderful community events, where residents could learn more about the benefits of home electrifcation. 


LAUNCHING | Clifton Hill Neighbourhood battery and EV charger

On Friday 15 May 2026, Minister for Energy and Resources, Lily D’Ambrosio, launched our neighbourhood battery and 60 kW public EV charger in Clifton Hill. 

The project was funded with a $750,000 grant from the Victorian Government through the Neighbourhood Battery Initiative.

This is the first dedicated front-of-meter neighbourhood battery designed to harmonise with public EV charging in inner-Melbourne.

EV charging will be cheaper during the "solar window" and more expensive during peak times. This is because we’re trialling how neighbourhood batteries and EVs can better work together, lowering pressure on the grid and incentivising use when solar production is highest (often when both energy emissions and prices are lowest).

The EV chargers have a lower-than-average height and wider parking spaces to improve accessibility for wheelchair users, with parking signage designed in consultation with local residents to match local use preferences.

Profits from the neighbourhood battery and EV charger will be returned to the local community through a Community Benefit Fund, delivered in partnership with the City of Yarra.

    ADVISING | Solar for Apartments rebate extended

    The Victorian Government has extended the Solar for Apartments rebate until 30 June 2027, or until rebates are exhausted. 

    The program offers rebates of up to $2,800 per apartment, with a maximum of $140,000 per property. Rebates are available for apartment buildings, strata townhouses and units under the control of an Owners Corporation and sharing a common property rooftop.

    ANNOUNCING | Sport & Spark club partners

    Sport & Spark provides funding for sports clubs to host events or activities for their communities, while also providing households with a fun and accessible way to learn about home electrification. This includes solar, efficient electric heating and cooling, electric appliances and information about available rebates, all shared through trusted sporting environments.

    UPDATING | Darebin Energy Upgrades Program

    Yarra Energy Foundation has been delivering the Darebin Energy Upgrades Program in partnership with Darebin City Council, helping Darebin residents make their homes and businesses more comfortable, energy efficient and affordable to run, while reducing their household emissions. 

    Since launching in February this year, the program has achieved:
    • 65 energy upgrades including electrification, draught proofing and insulation installations
    • The most popular upgrade has been split systems with a total of 15 installed in Darebin. 
    Darebin City Council are offering additional rebates to eligible residents to assist with the upfront cost of upgrades.

    In addition there is a $220 gas disconnection rebate if you are removing the last gas appliance in your home through this program. This rebate is available to any Darebin resident, however, it is limited to the first 30 households.

    ANNOUNCING | Rewiring Australia release their 'Community Electrification Handbook' 

    Rewiring Australia's new handbook provides practical advice for community groups seeking to run successful electrification programs. It recognises that there are many different barriers to electrification. Community groups can be most successful when they have specific strategies to tackle their chosen issue. 

    The handbook covers everything from creating a program plan, program models, engagement strategies to helpful case studies. 

    YEF's very own Hume Home Energy Upgrades Program features as a case study, showcasing the delivery of 4,555 upgrades through the program. After running our own electrification program some key takeaways from the handbook that resonated with our own experiences were:
    • Community-led approaches and partnerships are critical to scaling electrification.
    • Clear goals and local context improve program success.
    • Incentives and financing reduce upfront cost barriers.
    • Education and trusted communication drive uptake.
    Here at YEF we encourage the development of these kinds of resources and are glad to see Rewiring doing such an awesome job!

    ATTENDING | Future of Neighbourhood Batteries Conference 

    Our Project Manager, Finn Buchhorn, attended the Australian National University, alongside industry experts, government representatives, and community champions.

    Interestingly, the discussions weren’t just about neighbourhood batteries, but also very much about the future of our energy networks.

    Key takeaways:
    • Distribution Network Service Providers (DNSPs) were strongly represented (although none from Victoria).
    • Zak Rich from AEMC canvased the “first major reform in the NEM era”: an evolution of DNSPs from managing poles and wires to a dynamic system (referred to as Distribution System Operators, or DSOs).
    • A key question was how to make network value streams available to third parties, improve data visibility, and break down the walls between DNSPs and their customers.
    • Multiple DNSPs flagged a need to move to a TOTEX (Total Expenditure) model, rather than a CAPEX (Regulated Asset Base) model, so that the third-party solutions could be part of their long-term planning.
    • It seemed that energy retailers could have a much larger role to play in a more dynamic, more flexible, and “DSO” era. Retailers can manage resources like solar, batteries, and electric-vehicles and importantly are the interface with the energy customer.
    Well done to all the organisers, with special thanks to Marnie Shaw and the Australian National University.

    SHARING | Smarter energy at home: it's all about when and how you use it 

    Batteries, EVs and daytime charging: An Energy Shapers case study.
     
    Indigo Power has released a very interesting blog post which contributes to the changing narrative around "self-consumption is always best", towards a more 'co-optimised' residential setup. 

    They use their own Energy Shapers plan in the case study. It highlights the benefits to the customer as the plan is designed to respond to the current changes in the energy market, 'higher solar production, lower electricity prices in the middle of the day, and sharper peaks in the late afternoon and evening'. 

    However, it also explains the benefit to the retailer, not in the form of more customer revenue but from lower load variability and therefore lower risk management costs. 

    The blog post adds to a bigger sector wide discussion that YEF also sees as highly important, the need for behavioural change of when and how we use energy so the uptake of renewable energy can continue to increase.

    ADDRESSING | The coordination challenge for Vehicle-to-Grid

    A new insights report published by the Vehicle-Grid-Network (VGN) says Australia’s growing fleet of electric vehicles presents a major opportunity to support the energy transition through bidirectional charging.

    However, the report says scaling vehicle-to-grid (V2G) is not just a technology challenge, but a coordination one. Specifically, that we need progress on standards, safety, regulation, market design, and consumer engagement.

    Key gaps today include interoperability, certification pathways, market signals, and consumer protections. The VGN is helping bridge these gaps by bringing together Australian leaders from industry, business, government, and community to identify priority areas for action.

    YEF is pleased to be part of one of the inaugural working groups through the VGN, with our focus on the consumer journeys and participation. VGN is a three-year project led by Climate-KIC Australia and the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures, funded by ARENA, Race for 2030, and industry partners.

    ASKING | EV charging in apartments: is it simpler than we think?

    As EV uptake grows across Australia, a common question keeps coming up: how will people living in apartments charge their cars?

    In our latest article, we explored this questions by speaking with experts from the EV, energy and apartment sectors. 

    Some key takeaways: 
    • Most Australians should only require 'trickle charging' through a regular power point. This can decrease costs for EV charging installations.
    • Residents who don't own an EV can also benefit, with power points installed in car bays or storage cages that can be used for running other devices.
    • This can be important for grid capacity and reducing peak demand for EVs, especially in apartments that will have their own electrical systems and capacity constraints.

    HIGHLIGHTING | Melbourne Community Electrification Roadshow - March events

    Coming up this month:

    ATTENDING | Vehicle-Grid Network Roundtable

    Last month, YEF joined more than 50 stakeholders from 31 organisations at the first Vehicle-Grid Network (VGN) Roundtable helping to shape the future of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration in Australia.
     
    This is Australia’s first collaboration network to accelerate EV-to-grid integration through cross-sector partnerships, knowledge sharing, and innovation.
     
    The Roundtable brought together car and charger manufacturers, energy companies, technology providers, government bodies, research organisations and community groups.
     
    YEF’s participation reflects our commitment to collaborative, cross-sector solutions that help communities benefit from emerging clean energy technologies.

    REPORTING | Hundreds of Home Energy Upgrades in Hume

    Yarra Energy Foundation has been delivering the Hume Home Energy Upgrades program in partnership with Hume City Council (HCC), helping residents make their homes more comfortable, energy efficient and affordable to run, while reducing their household emissions. 

    Since launching in September 2024, the program has delivered strong results (as of 25 February 2026):
    • 14,218 CO2-e tonnes avoided over lifespan of solar and electric upgrades, plus additional savings from thermal upgrades. 
    • $1,410: Average estimated annual bill savings for concession households through full home electrification, no use of gas.
    • 1,275 residents registered for free expert advice
    • 455 home energy upgrades completed
    • 281 upgrades supported by Council concession rebates 
    • Most households choosing multiple upgrades to improve comfort and reduce energy bills

    SHARING | Electrify Yarra's Community Pilot Project to Lower energy Bills 

    In 2024, Yarra Energy Foundation delivered Wired for Tomorrow, a vision and roadmap for an all-electric precinct in the City of Yarra. As part of that work, YEF partnered with community group Electrify Yarra to explore how neighbourhoods could transition away from gas and toward efficient electric homes.

    Building on this work, Electrify Yarra has now launched a community pilot project to help around 60 households in North Fitzroy electrify their homes and reduce energy bills.

    The project will provide intensive support to participating households over the coming year, with the goal of developing a practical model that can be replicated across other neighbourhoods.

    As part of the pilot, Electrify Yarra will:
    • Establish a baseline of current household appliances, transport, energy sources and costs
    • Help households plan and prioritise electrification upgrades, including switching off gas and improving thermal efficiency
    • Provide support with quotes, suppliers and lessons learned, while connecting neighbours who have already electrified so they can share their experiences
    Throughout the project, Electrify Yarra will track progress and document outcomes to create a guide that other community groups can use to run similar neighbourhood electrification initiatives.

    OFFERING | Rewiring Australia Network Model

    Rewiring Australia has made a submission to the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) to support the 'recognition that the current pricing framework will not deliver equitable outcomes as consumer energy resources (CER) proliferate.' The way network costs are recovered needs to change as our energy generation changes. 

    While they recognise this, they are also proposing another model of charging:
    • property-value-scaled fixed charges levied on property owners rather than electricity account holders, combined with
    • stronger dynamic network pricing that rewards batteries and flexible loads for genuinely reducing system costs.
    The submission proposes a new model for charging that will help to bring everyone along in the energy transition, rather than only those who can afford electrification upgrades being able to transition.

    Back on the YEF front, it has been a busy start to the year and we are excited to share our new projects with you: 
    • We launch our new engagement project 'Sport & Spark: Sparking conversations about home electrification through sport', where we will be working with sports clubs to help their members reduce energy bills,
    • Mornington Peninsula Home Energy Upgrades is now open to all residents of the Mornington Peninsula Shire to access free advice about home energy upgrades,
    • Darebin Energy Upgrades also launched this month, open to residents and businesses looking for a supported pathway to energy upgrades,
    • and the Melbourne Community Electrification Roadshow continues with more wonderful local events.

    SPARKING | Conversations about home electrification through Sport & Spark

    Sport & Spark provides funding for sports clubs and organisations to host events or activities for their communities between May and November 2026.

    Sport & Spark is led by Yarra Energy Foundation and supported by the Victorian Government through the Cheaper Home Electric Energy Program (CHEEP).

    The initiative helps clubs to:
    • strengthen participation and social connections
    • grow membership and skills
    • support fundraising efforts
    While also providing households with a fun and accessible way to learn about home electrification - including solar, efficient electric heating and cooling, electric appliances and available rebates - through trusted sporting environments.

    YEF is seeking to work with approximately 12 sports clubs or associations based in Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Hume, Maribyrnong, Melton, Whittlesea or Wyndham. 

    LAUNCHING | Mornington Peninsula Shire Home Energy Upgrades

    In partnership with Mornington Peninsula Shire, we are thrilled to have launched the Home Energy Upgrades program on 2nd February.

    Residents in Mornington Peninsula can access free expert advice and well priced energy efficient products through our trusted installer, helping them to reduce energy bills and improve household comfort.

    Sustainable House Day, Sunday 17 May 2026, is a wonderful initiative presented by Renew, where locals invite you into their homes and share the practical solutions that make homes more efficient, affordable and climate-ready. 

    Home applications are open and Renew are looking for homes across Australia to take part - houses, apartments, homeowners or renters - all are welcome.

    Happy New Year! Hello 2026! We hope you had a restful break and found a moment to slow down and recharge.

    Yarra Energy Foundation (YEF) are back and looking forward to a big year. We’ve got a bunch of great projects continuing from 2025, and some new ones we’re excited to share soon. A few things we’re already diving into:
    • Continuing work on the Clifton Hill community battery and EV charger
    • Progress on community batteries in Altona, Manor Lakes and Torquay
    • More home energy upgrades with Hume and Bayside councils, helping residents to reduce their energy bills and improve their home comfort
    • The Melbourne Community Electrification Roadshow is back for another round of great local events
    • And we’re starting on a brand new electrification engagement program, more on that below.

    REPORTING | YEF wins funding from the Cheaper Home Electric Energy Program

    We are excited to share that YEF has been awarded funding under the Victorian Government's Cheaper Home Electric Energy Program (CHEEP), delivered by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

    Through our project, "Engaging diverse communities on home electrification through sports", we will be working with sporting communities in the areas of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Hume, Maribyrnong, Melton, Whittlesea and Wyndham. 

    We look forward to sharing more updates about the program soon. 

    PUBLISHING | YEF's Annual Report is out now

    We’re proud to share our latest Annual Report, capturing a year of meaningful progress towards a cleaner, fairer energy future. From delivering practical energy solutions for households and communities to shaping policy, building partnerships, and supporting energy storage, the report reflects the impact of our work over the last financial year.

    Key achievements:

    AUST | GOV | CHANGING | Cheaper Home Batteries program

    The Federal Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program supports Australian households and small businesses with a discount on the cost of installing small-scale battery systems. 

    The program provides a discount of around 30% on the upfront cost of installing battery systems between 5 kWh and 100 kWh, which has supported over 160,000 battery installations across Australia.

    The discount is provided through the creation and trading of STCs. To fund the discount, the government purchases the equivalent number of STCs created for batteries.

    From May 1, 2026, several changes will take effect: 
    • The program will expand from the original estimate of $2.3 billion to an estimated $7.2 billion over the next four years
    • The number of STCs a system is eligible for will decline more frequently, every 6 months instead of annually, and will decline at a higher rate
    • The STC Factor will taper according to the battery capacity:
      • 0 kWh up to 14 kWh (inclusive): STC Factor applied at 100%.
      • Every kWh greater than 14 and up to 28 kWh (inclusive): STC Factor applied at 60%.
      • Every kWh greater than 28 and up to 50 kWh (inclusive): STC Factor applied at 15%.
    This Solar Battery STC Calculator is a great way to see what a proposed system will be eligible for, based on the size and installation date.

    JOINING | Australia's first Vehicle-Grid Network

    YEF is pleased to be one of the in-kind partners in Australia’s first national collaboration network accelerating electric vehicle-to-grid integration, called the Vehicle-Grid Network.
     
    The Network will foster cross-sector partnerships, knowledge sharing, and innovation to explore the potential of bidirectional EV charging to lower bills and emissions.
     
    Commissioned by RACE for 2030 in partnership with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), the project is led by Climate-KIC Australia and the Institute for Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).

    REPORTING | Efficient Electric Homes Summit

    We recently joined hundreds of home electrification proponents at the Efficient Electric Homes Market Acceleration Summit in Sydney hosted by the Energy Efficiency Council (EEC).

    Key takeaways included: 
    • Mandatory home energy ratings disclosure is a crucial step to drive minimum standards and incentivise owner upgrades, such as at the point of sale or lease.
    • “One stop shops” for residential energy upgrades are common in Europe, with 86 in Belgium, where more successful models involve communities and local governments.
    • The significant health benefits of home energy upgrades are an under emphasised outcome of the electrification movement. 
    • Congratulations to the EEC on launching their Market Acceleration Plan, which outlines a mission to establish a mature market for efficient electric retrofits across Australia.

    REPORTING | Achievements from the Melbourne Community Electrification Roadshow

    Since our first event in August this year, the Melbourne Community Electrification Roadshow has:
    • Engaged 1,600 participants
    • Delivered 19 local events
    • Partnered with 15 community groups and councils 
    • Reached communities across 11 local government areas
    Across information sessions, webinars, market stalls and expos, these events have helped households explore the benefits of electrification, like better home comfort, lower energy bills and lower emissions.

    A huge thank you to all our wonderful partners, and to everyone who has attended an event.

    REPORTING | Three hours of free electricity

    On 4 November 2025, the Australian Government announced "Solar Sharer", which will require energy retailers to offer a competitively priced energy plan that includes at least three hours of free electricity in the middle of the day. 
     
    The offer will initially be available to homes with smart meters in New South Wales, South Australia and South-East Queensland from July 2026, with plans to extend to the other states and territories in 2027. 

    Industry and consumer groups have responded positively, with renters and those living in apartments set to benefit, including those without solar. The free electricity incentive aims to shift malleable demand from the evening to the middle of the day.

    Just as batteries time-shift renewable energy, Solar Sharer will help time-shift demand, which will make better use of and reduce costly upgrades to the grid.

    More options for consumers is excellent! But — and tell your friends — it may not be the right retail plan for those who may be better off on a single-rate tariff if they can’t shift electricity use to the middle of the day.

    REPORTING | YEF at All Energy Australia 

    Recently, we joined the whirlwind at the All Energy Australia conference, the largest energy industry event of the calendar. Thanks for coming to say hi! 

    Energy and Storage Project Manager, Finn Buchhorn presented on YEF's recent feasibility study of a microgrid for the town of Trentham as a case study. Learn more about feasibility study. 

    Solar and Electrification Project Lead, Lloyd Heathfield presented 'Local Councils and Working with Community', highlighting that $1 of Council rebates can unlock an additional $4-5 of State and Federal rebates and a better deal for customers.

    TALKING | Toolbox TechTalk with Glen Morris

    YEF recently did a technical feasibility study for a low-voltage network connected microgrid in Trentham, Victoria.

    We caught up with Jo Oddie from Trentham Sustainability Group and Glen Morris (SolarQuip) on his show, Toolbox TechTalk, about the project. 

    The town of Trentham in West Central Victoria is highly vulnerable to climate change impacts and extreme weather events. The project was part of an effort to find new solutions to energy reliability and resilience in Trentham.

    ATTENDING | Future Grid Summit 2025

    Next month we’re joining networks, regulators, policymakers and technologists in Sydney to tackle the real barriers facing the grid, batteries, and distributed energy resources.  
     
    The Future Grid Summit will take place 3-4 December 2025, and YEF's Commercial Program Manager, Chris Wallin, will be speaking on a panel about energy storage, from community batteries to large-scale storage projects.

    Session: Rethinking the role of batteries in a resilient, distributed grid | Wednesday 3 December 2025 | 4.10pm

    The discussion will include governance and ownership models, the role of networks, market operators and communities, and how to balance rapid deployment with long term planning. 
     

    ALTONA | YEF | DELIVERING | Community battery offer for Altona residents

    YEF is delivering a community battery in Altona to reduce pressure on the electricity grid and support more households to install rooftop solar. Learn more about Altona Community Battery

    Through our partner Diamond Energy, Altona residents can apply for a $240/annum credit every year for up to 10 years. Noting that the offer will be available to a limited number of households, with priority given to concession card holders.
     
    Please note: this offer is only available to Altona residents who are Diamond Energy customers.

    VIC | VEU | EXPANDING | Commercial and industrial solar discounts

    The Victorian Government has expanded the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program to include discounts for commercial and industrial premises to install solar PV systems.

    Solar PV systems between 30 kW - 200 kW on any non-residential building in Victoria can apply for the discount through an accredited provider.

    Great to see this extra support for businesses, as well as community buildings, schools and hospitals, and we hope to see a greater uptake of solar in these areas. 

    AUST | CEG | PUBLISHING | Rooftop solar and storage report 

    Last month, the Clean Energy Council (CEG) released their Rooftop solar and storage report.

    Highlights for the first half of 2025:
    • 115,584 Aussie homes installed rooftop solar, with the country's total being over 4 million
    • Rooftop solar contributed 12.8% of Australia's total energy generation for the period
    • 85,000 battery units were sold, a huge jump on the previous period

    AUST | EVC | REPORTING | State of electric vehicles 2025 

    The Electric Vehicle Council (EVC) released their State of Electric Vehicles report, sharing data from January to June 2025. 

    Highlights:
    • 24% increase in EV sales in Australia
    • EV's make up 12% of all new cars sold
    • More than 370,000 EVs on the road, up from 180,000 just two years ago
    • ACT has the largest EV uptake of all states and territories while Victoria saw the largest growth in EV sales for the period
