[Edited extract from public address]

After a week of spiking infection rates of coronavirus (COVID-19), Premier Daniel Andrews has announced new stay-at-home directions, with a State of Disaster declared for Victoria from 6pm tonight (Sunday 2 August).

Changes for Metropolitan Melbourne:

⚠️Night-time curfew
An evening curfew will be implemented across Melbourne from 8pm to 5am every day, starting tonight (Sunday 2 August), forbidding anyone from leaving the home except for working, receiving or giving care.

⚠️Still only 4 reasons to leave home
  • Shopping for food, essential goods & services
  • Caregiving, medical, compassionate reasons
  • Work or study
  • Exercise

⚠️Exercise
Exercise outside of the home will only be allowed for 1 hour at a time, within 5 kilometres of your home, with 1 other person.
(Exempt: dependent children)

⚠️Organised sport/recreation/golf/fishing
Organised sport, golf and fishing are banned.

⚠️Shopping
Melbourne residents will only be allowed to shop for essentials within 5 kilometres of their homes. Only 1 person from each household will be able to shop at a time, once a day.
(Exempt: caregiving, assisting elderly)

⚠️Education changes
Schools will return to remote and flexible learning on Wednesday 5 August across all year levels and across the state. The only exception will be for specialist schools. Onsite supervision will be available for students who need it, including children whose parents are permitted workers and vulnerable kids who can’t learn from home.

⚠️Childcare and kindergarten
Childcare centres and kindergartens will close from Wednesday 5 August.
(Exempt: vulnerable and children of permitted workers)

⚠️ Restaurants and cafes
Restaurants and cafes can only offer delivery and takeaway, subject to conditions.

⚠️Intimate partners and shared custody arrangements
No change. Visits allowed outside 5 kilometres.

⚠️Weddings
Weddings will be banned in metropolitan Melbourne from Thursday 6 August.
(Exempt: compassionate conditions)

⚠️Funerals
No change. Up to 10 mourners plus people required to conduct the funeral. You can travel to a funeral outside of metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire. The restrictions apply based on the location of the funeral.

Changes for regional Victoria:

⚠️Regional Victoria
From 11.59pm on Wednesday 5 August, regional Victoria will return to Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions. That means there’ll again only be 4 reasons to be out: shopping for food and essential items. Care and caregiving. Daily exercise. Work and study – if you can’t do it from home.
Businesses in regional Victoria will also return to Stage 3 restrictions.

⚠️Education changes
Schools will return to remote and flexible learning on Wednesday 5 August – across all year levels and across the state. The only exception will be for specialist schools. Onsite supervision will be available for students who need it, including children whose parents are permitted workers and vulnerable kids who can’t learn from home.
