VMC | UPDATING | Community on regional consultations, multicultural mental health, Mid-Autumn Festival and more… | Thursday 1 October 2020

[Edited extract from public address]

This week marks the Mid-Autumn or Moon Festival, a time to give thanks and connect with loved ones and communities.

Message from the Chairperson

I wish all Victorians who are celebrating this week a very happy festival.

Although this year’s celebrations will be different because we are physically apart, it’s important that we come together online to connect and share our cultural celebrations.

Today we're sharing new in-language audio assets and social titles for the Mid-Autumn Festival, reminding everyone to stay home and celebrate with the people they live with.

We're also sharing information about HeartChat, a new online platform aiming to connect diverse Victorians to mental health providers who speak their language and understand their culture. The platform is now accepting registrations from culturally diverse counsellors and psychologists.

We are pleased to be holding meetings over the coming weeks with our eight VMC Regional Advisory Councils (RAC) and held our first in the Southern Metropolitan region last night. Following on from each meeting there will be an online community roundtable with representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services.

These community roundtables are open to all and will provide an opportunity to discuss the specific regional challenges of responding to coronavirus (COVID-19) and the roadmap for reopening. (See the calendar and registration information below.)

Finally, a reminder that nominations for this year’s Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence close on Sunday 11 October 2020. Make sure you take a moment this week to nominate a diversity hero in your life.

Stay well and look out for each other,
Viv Nguyen, Chairperson

Translated materials: Mid-Autumn Festival

To leaders with valuable ties to Victoria’s multicultural community, we are asking for your help sharing the materials in this pack with everyone celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival this year. While it’s hard that we can’t have large family gatherings during celebrations like this – it’s important that we keep following the rules and the health advice. This pack includes links to a range of materials – including posters, social media posts and audio files – for you to share with your community.
