It's August already, and congratulations are extended to the new appointees of the Victorian Disability Advisory Council.
Message from the Chairperson
I commend the diversity of the appointees selected - representation matters, especially for those with intersectional identities. The Council will have a key role in advising on the implementation of Inclusive Victoria, the state disability plan for 2022-26.The VMC was excited this week to open expressions of interest for our own advisory initiative - the Multicultural Youth Network. The Multicultural Youth Network will play a critical role in advising the VMC and government departments on matters affecting multicultural young people including mental health, employment and racism.
Please consider sharing information regarding the Multicultural Youth Network with anyone you know who would be interested. We've also shared a post regarding the Network to our social media channels which features VMC Youth Commissioner Luna Folly - I warmly invite you to share that post with your networks as well.
Finally, a reminder that this is the last week to submit a nomination to recognise the work of an individual or organisation for the 2022 Multicultural Awards for Excellence. Nominations close Sunday 7 August.
I see and hear about excellence in multicultural communities every day - it's important that we recognise and award these efforts. As mentioned before, representation matters.

The 2022 Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence is open for nominations until 11:59pm this Sunday 7 August.These awards formally recognise the people and organisations in our community who build cross-cultural understanding and support those with migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.
Do you know an emerging young leader in your community who deserves recognition? Or perhaps a business that has contributed their time and resources to uplifting multicultural communities? Then nominate them today!
There are 14 categories for nomination in total: Arts, Business, Community Innovation, Education, Emergency Services, Health, Justice, Local Government, Media, Police, Refugee Advocacy, Sport, Youth Leadership, and the Premier’s Award for Community Harmony.
Each category can have multiple winners and highly-commended nominations. All will be honoured at a ceremony at Government House in October.

Expressions of interest for the VMC Multicultural Youth Network (MYN) are now open!We are looking for young people who have strong connections to multicultural communities. Applications from culturally, linguistically and religiously diverse backgrounds, including refugees and asylum seekers, are strongly encouraged.
The VMC is looking for representation in eight regions across Victoria including Barwon South West, Gippsland, Grampians, Hume, London Mallee and Metropolitan regions.
The MYN is a platform for members to advise the VMC and Government Departments on matters affecting multicultural young people including multicultural affairs, mental health, employment, racism and discrimination.

Community Crime Prevention Victoria (CCPV) Youth Engagement Grants provide funding of up to $50,000 for small multicultural and Aboriginal organisations to support children and young people aged 8 to 24 make positive life choices, establish strong community connections and prevent contact with police and the justice system.This round of applications is looking for projects that use cultural connection, sport, arts, music or other creative activities to engage children and young people.

LGBTIQ+ organisations and community groups can apply for Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) grants of up to $10,000 for the planning and delivery of events that promote queer arts and culture, celebrate the diversity in rainbow communities and raise awareness to combat discrimination.The Fund is underpinned by a commitment to inclusivity, ensuring all activities are welcoming and accessible to all communities, including LGBTIQ+ people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and those based in regional and rural areas.
VIC | BCTGP | GRANTING | For business chambers and trader groups | applications close Wednesday 28 August 2022
Applications are now open for the third round of the Business Chambers and Trader Groups Program (BCTGP).Up to 60 grants of $20,000 each are available for business chambers and trader groups to deliver activities or programs that build business community participation across Victoria.
The previous two rounds of the program have already provided $5.6 million through more than 230 grants to local business organisations.

Suicide has a devastating and enduring impact on Victorian communities. It affects people of all ages and backgrounds, impacting individuals, families and friends, workplaces, schools and local communities.The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System recommended that the Victorian Government develop a new suicide prevention and response strategy. The strategy will take a whole-of-government and community-wide approach so we can better prevent and respond to suicide.
The Department of Health Mental Health and Wellbeing Division (DHMHWD) would like your input to develop the strategy. Your input can be via an online survey or an uploaded response.

Victoria Police is committed to increasing the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in their organisation and enriching their ties to community.Round 3 of the Victoria Police Diversity Recruitment Program has now opened, seeking Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants living in Shepparton who are interested in a career with Victoria Police.
The Program will help you to get ready for a policing role, prepare you for the recruitment process and support you as you hopefully start your career with Victoria Police. This includes mentoring, exam preparation, fitness and ongoing coaching during Academy training.
MELB | ANNOUNCING | Five artists selected for new Metro Tunnel stations in Melbourne
Five prominent artists have been selected to create large-scale permanent artworks for each of the Metro Tunnel’s new underground stations.They join Yorta Yorta/Wamba Wamba/Mutti Mutti/Boonwurrung artist Maree Clarke, who was announced in 2020 as the artist commissioned for a work spanning all 5 stations.
The station artworks are currently in the development stage, in a process involving the artists, architects and engineers.
